Going Zero Waste is a process, it doesn't happen over night.
You change item by item in your household which you would want to be more sustainable or maybe even just give it away because you decide you don't need it anymore.
In a women's becoming-zero-waste-process there is this moment when you realize, you need an
alter-0-tive for your monthly hygiene products, because tampons and pads are causing loads of trash.
We already wrote an article about menstrual cups - find it here - but today we want to talk about cloth pads.

When I saw these at a friend's house years ago I was surprised, I never knew that cloth pads even existed, and because I was using tampons I rarely used pads anyway.
But when it came to first using the OrganiCup, I was unsure and wanted to have extra protection, so I searched and found EcoFemme.
EcoFemme is not only a producer of cloth pads, it's an organization which supports women all over the world to have a healthier period.
Established in India, where waste is a very serious problem, they employ women, who can't get any job, to sew the pads and make fair money for themselves and their families.
In schools they teach young women how to (re)use cloth pads and also explain them how their bodies work, what kind of toxins there are to find in tampons and disposable pads and in whole to be better to themselves and have healthier cycles.
The coolest thing about EcoFemme is, that for every cloth pad you order, they give one cloth pad to a girl or a woman who cannot afford it, which we think is amazing and absolutely worth supporting.
So when I was ordering a few cloth pads I came across the ambassador-page of EcoFemme.
They have this great program, where women all over the world, who feel to share their experiences about the "cloth pad revolution" can sign up, and women who are interested in the subject and have questions can ask them.
So as we talk about this topic in our workshops anyway, we immediately decided to become ambassadors, too.
As our workshops are about zero waste, and there are also men, we don't spend much time talking about women's hygiene products, but we always tell our participants about menstrual cups and cloth pads and always have them with us to show around. Because we think it's a really important topic, we always invite people to ask whatever they want.
But there are women who are actually giving workshops only about cycles and healthier periods and if you're interested you can find them on the ambassador site.
So to support this beautiful institution and to do something really healthy for you body: Women, join the cloth pad revolution! :)

Sein Leben alternulltiv umzustellen ist ein Prozess, das passiert nicht einfach so über
Nacht.
Langsam ersetzt man nach und nach Teile aus seinem Haushalt durch welche, die nachhaltiger sind, oder stellt fest, dass man manche vielleicht auch einfach gar nicht mehr benötigt.
Im Zero Waste Leben einer Frau kommt irgendwann der Moment, wo man feststellt, dass man jetzt über eine Alternulltive zu den monatlichen Hygieneprodukten braucht, weil herkömmliche Tampons und Slipeinlagen natürlich sehr viel Müll verursachen und dazu auch noch größtenteils gesundheitsschädlich sind.
Eine Blog über Menstruationskappen haben wir je bereits geschrieben, aber heute möchten wir euch von Baumwoll-Slipeinlagen erzählen.
Als ich einige davon vor ein paar Jahren einmal bei einer Freundin gesehen habe, war ich sehr überrascht, mir war nicht bewusst, dass so etwas überhaupt existiert!
Zudem benutzte ich stets Tampons und fühlte mich damit so sicher, dass ich auf Slipeinlagen verzichtete.
Doch als ich das erste Mal den OrganiCup benutzen wollte, wollte ich doch noch eine weitere Sicherheit haben.
Also habe ich das Netz durchsucht und fand EcoFemme.
EcoFemme produziert nicht nur Baumwoll-Slipeinlagen und -binden, sondern besteht aus einer Organisation die Frauen auf der ganzen Welt dabei unterstützt, gesünder mit ihrer Periode umzugehen.
Ihre Basis liegt in Indien, wo Müll wirklich ein großes Problem darstellt. Die Produkte werden von Frauen gefertigt, die sonst keinen Job bekommen haben und bei EcoFemme fair bezahlt werden um sich und ihre Familien zu ernähren.
Außerdem haben sie Programme in Schulen. Dort werden jungen Mädchen und Frauen über ihren Zyklus aufgeklärt und vermittelt, wie sie gesund damit umgehen können.
Das Inspirierenste an EcoFemme ist, dass sie für jedes gekaufte Produkt ein weiteres an eine Frau oder ein Mädchen verschenken, die sich das nicht selbst leisten kann. Das finden wir wirklich großartig und sehr unterstützenswert.
Als ich dabei war, ein paar von den "cloth pads" zu bestellen, stieß ich auf der Website noch auf das Ambassador (zu dt. Botschafter) Programm von EcoFemme. Frauen auf der ganzen Welt können sich dort eintragen lassen, um von ihren Erfahrungen zu berichten und auch bei Fragen Neulingen in der "cloth pad revolution" zur Seite zu stehen.
Da wir in unseren Workshops das Thema sowieso immer kurz anschneiden, beschlossen wir, uns auch für das Programm anzumelden.
Wir sprechen zwar meist nicht sehr ausführlich darüber, da wir auch männliche Teilnehmer haben, aber laden unsere Kurse stets dazu ein, alle Fragen zu stellen, die sie gern möchten.
Es gibt aber auch Frauen, die sich speziell auf das Thema Zyklus und gesunde Menstruation beziehen und darüber Lesungen und Informationsveranstaltungen machen.
Auch solche kann man über die Ambassador Website finden.
Um also diese Institution zu unterstützen und gleichzeitig auch noch etwas gutes für eure Gesundheit zu tun: Mädels, macht mit, bei der "cloth pad revolution"!
